The Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF) was organized in 1994 by a group of Christian leaders. Their goal at that time was to protect the legal rights of Christians and also members of other faiths including Jews, Muslims, Mormons, Jehovah’s witnesses, and those people who have no specific faith. In fact the Alliance Defending Freedom strongly believes that religious freedom should be firmly extended and defended for people of all faiths and explicitly also for people who do not have an expressed belief system.

ADF is one of the largest legal non-governmental organizations in the world. In addition to religious freedom their work extends to protecting the sanctity of life and specifically parental rights free speech, and God’s plan for marriage and family.

The Alliance Defending Freedom believes that a society that is totally free and accepting obliges them to give the same rights to others that we ourselves want and expect. That is true even if we do not agree or even disagree strongly with.

Beyond the United States ADF International works to lessen and often to stop genocide. They have helped Christians, Shia Muslims, Yazidis and other beleaguered religious minorities. ADF litigates cases in state and federal courts, representing both conservative and progressive groups alike, from churches to private businesses like Hobby Lobby.

As one of the leading areas of significant concern for the Alliance Defending Freedom is as previously stated is religious freedom. How does this manifest itself? ADF maintains that everyone everywhere has the right to contemplate some of life’s most momentous questions. These freedoms extend to public spaces, in the home, in places of worship, and at work. These expression of religious conviction come from the belief that human rights include these specific rights as well.
