Gino Pozzo Has A Snack For Transforming Lackluster Football Clubs Into Winners

Gino Pozzo is a winner as far as professional sports are concerned in Europe, and if Gino Pozzo were a gardener, you might say he has a green thumb.

Born to a wealthy family of football enthusiasts in Udine, Italy, Gino Pozzo was directly related to the president of the Udinese Calico football club, and his entire family has maintained a love for that football club for decades.

His father, who owned a thriving woodworking business, allowed enough wealth so that in 1986 after he sold the business, was able to purchase the Udinese Calcio Football Club which was so dear to the family.

Meanwhile, young Gino Pozzo, traveled to the US where he attended Harvard, earning a master’s degree in the process, and then upon marrying a Catalan woman, moved to Spain where he worked and raised a family for several years.

Gino Pozzo however, proved to be an outstanding talent coach for his father’s football team and helped shuttle the Udinese Calcio Football Club turning the club from a mere Serie B club into a member of the Champions League, and bringing significant profits to the Pozzo family.

Gino did the same thing in 2009 when his family purchased the Granada FC club in Barcelona in 2009, raising Granada rose from Segunda B to the Primera Liga for the first time in over three decades.

In 2012, the family purchased the Waterford F.C football club in the UK, and Gino Pozzo moved to London to run the club.

Again, due to his savvy in football operations, Gino successfully turned operations around, and Waterford was able to move from the Fourth Division to the Premier League in only a couple of short years.

Gino says that there is definitely a significant difference between running a football club in the Championship ranks and a football club that is in the elite, Premiere League.

The job is a complete, full-time obsession, so much so that the family decided to sell the Granada F.C football club to a Chinese investor in 2016, in order to concentrate full time on nurturing Waterford into a Premier League Powerhouse. Go to this page for more information.
