Gino Pozzo, Italian Businessman
Gino Pozzo has invested in a vast number of businesses, including tobacco and gambling. His name appears on a number of high-profile London properties including a penthouse at the exclusive Mayfair Hotel, which was sold for £16.5 million in 2013. He also owns property throughout Italy and Spain.
He is also well known within the world of tennis with his company A. Pozzo S.r.l. having been a sponsor of Rafa Nadal and Jerzy Janowicz since 2008, they have also sponsored Thai Professional Teakwins – Rungrawee Thammasat (PTT) Football Club as well as Rafael Nadal’s clothing line “Rafa”.
Gino Pozzo has also made key investments in some of the world’s most famous hotels including the St. Regis and Intercontinental Hotels. He has a controlling stake in the 34-story ‘Armani-designed’ Sheraton on Park Lane Hotel, which was sold for £250m in 2010.
He also has a share of well-known London restaurants including The Ivy, Tramshed and The Ledbury.
In December 2015, Pozzo invested £50m in London based online gambling company 32Red, which is chaired by former Gambling Commission chief executive John White.
He also owns World Poker Tour and the Aussie Millions, both of which he acquired in 2011.
Pozzo’s involvement in gambling dates back to his early days as a banker. In 1975, at the age of 19, he was made a director of Banco Ambrosiano’s Banca Sella, the entity which held Michele Sindona’s Michele Sindona Trust.
In the 1980s, Gino Pozzo remarked “Gambling is only good when you don’t know the odds.” Pozzo’s banking career has been tied to numerous world figures including Nicolo Cerruti, Roberto Calvi, Benito Mussolini and Silvio Berlusconi. He also had ties to the KGB during the Cold War. Pozzo was an early investor in gambling and property development projects around France and in particular Paris.
