How Edgard Corona is changing the fitness industry
Edgard Corona is a renowned businessman in the fitness industry. With more than three decades of experience, he has managed to expand his company, Smart Fit, to more than 13 countries, with the leading branch being in Latin America. In 2021, the company made its original IPO of academics. Between 1974 and 1979, Edgard Corona attended the Fundação Armando Alvares Penteado (FAAP), where he graduated with a Chemical Engineering degree. While at college, Edgard ventured into business, where he owned a material laboratory and clothing stores.
Edgard Corona is the CEO and founding partner of Smart Fit and Bio Ritmo. He left the family business in 1996 and started his entrepreneurial journey in Santo Amaro by creating his first Bio Ritmo gym. He founded the gym after being involved in an accident while skiing and required physiotherapy sessions. He conducted the sessions in his gym while carefully observing the changes and mistakes to help in getting better.
With great interest in fitness, the Brazilian entrepreneur had great innovative plans that ensured the incorporation of new models into sports. The initial development wasn’t a success, but reliance and lessons from unsuccessful attempts taught Corona to be persistent. He carried out a ‘benchmark’ process to collect relevant information that would help him achieve his dreams. He then started the Avenida Paulista-based Ritmo gym to offer a new experience to those with less training time. The strategy was a success and opened more units.
With the company’s significant expansion, Corona started being part of international conferences that helped him exchange experiences with other entrepreneurs and develop a business model for sports. In 2008, Corona started Smart Fit gym, and initial chain was changed to become a group that made the business stand out in Latin America. Recently, Smart Fit joined the Brazilian Stock Exchange after creating its capital to invest. Refer to this page for additional information.
